DIY Craft Centerpiece Ideas: Grid Mirror Glass Candleholders

This project reminds me of something you would see in a home décor boutique, but for a far less price! Consider using a variety of glasses for a unique and custom finished look.

For this project, you will need:

– One glass cylinder vase measuring 6 x 3 1/4 inches wide (found online here at Save-On-Crafts)

– One glass cylinder vase measuring 7 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches wide (found online here at Save-On-Crafts)

– One glass cylinder vase measuring 10 x 3 1/4 inches wide (found online here at Save-On-Crafts)

– Krylon Looking Glass Mirror Like Paint

– 1/2 inch wide masking tape

– Ruler

– Soap and water

– Paper towels

– Clear florist’s gems

– Pillar candles

– Newspaper

A word of caution before beginning this project: Spray paints can be hazardous to your health in inhaled and quite messy. Always make sure your workspace is adequately ventilated and covered with newspaper to prevent overspray. Work outside if readily available.

Wash each of the glass cylinders with soap and water. Dry well and completely with paper towels. Take the largest cylinder and coat the entire outside wall with strips of masking tape to protect it. Leave only the outside of the bottom of the cylinder exposed. Add two thick coats of Krylon Looking Glass Mirror Like Paint to the bottom of the cylinder. Repeat the process with the remaining cylinders and let dry overnight.

Leaving the outside masking tape on for protection, apply a singular 1/2 inch strip of masking tape vertically inside the largest cylinder. Smooth with your fingers to prevent any bubbles. Measure exactly one half inch from this tape strip and adhere a second vertical strip. There should be a 1/2 inch gap between the tape strips. Repeat this around the entire inside of the vase, and for the interiors of each of the smaller vases.

Now, apply a second strip of tape to the inside of the cylinder. This time, however, it should be horizontal. Measure an additional 1/2 inch up and apply a second strip. (I.e. repeating the same process as before, but horizontally to create a grid like pattern.) Do this with all three of the cylinder vases. Coat each of the interior bottoms fully with masking tape for protection.

Spray three even coats of Krylon Looking Glass Mirror Like Paint into the interior side walls of cylinders. Let the glass set overnight before removing all tape.

Fill with clear florist’s gems. Insert several pillar candles and enjoy!

TIP: This is a perfect centerpiece for a patio or garden table!
